Alchemically collaging acoustic voices and instrumentation from the furthest flung regions of China, Laos, and Northern Vietnam, together with computer processing, he synthesises six incredibly compelling sonic interzones, emphasising the exotic, almost alien (well, from our perspective, at least) beauty of the original recordings by means of subtle electronic augmentation resulting even queerer harmonics whilst opening unreal space between their notes and the natural acoustics of their location. Sometimes he leaves the recordings completely unedited and untreated; at others they’re evidently removed from their natural setting. But the subtlety of application makes for immersive and deeply illusory, ambiguous experience, the kind which we absolutely thrive off up here, hence strong recommendation to those listeners who don’t like it black or white, but want to hear strange, new colours.
